Following on the heels of Jesper DahlbackÃs excellent Stockholm Mix Sessions series, comes the first (?) of Jori HulkkonenÃs Helsinki Mix Sessions. Anyone whoÃs a fan of HulkkonenÃs production (most recently on his incredible full-length album, When No One is Watching We Are Invisible), will be pleased to discover the Finn is a fine decknician to boot. He kicks off with ApproximateÃs "Fututoshop," its strange bleepy melody seems ripped from an old Beau Brummels tune. After that, a sweet and loose roll of deep vocal house cuts by ADNY, Spiro Projecto, Nick Holder and into the too phat combo of Jaymz NylonÃs very groovy "I Know A Place" and BlazeÃs "Funky People," a Jackson 5-tinged funky number. From there, the groove tightens with cuts by, among others,The Persuader, Daniel Ibbotson, Slow Supreme and HulkkonenÃs own special "SumthinÃ." And dig that incredibly cool sleeve art! (Yuri Wuensch)
