Urban & Electronica Music CD Reviews @ Yahoo.com
Following on the heels of Jesper DahlbackÃs excellent Stockholm Mix Sessions series, comes the first (?) of Jori HulkkonenÃs Helsinki Mix Sessions. Anyone whoÃs a fan of HulkkonenÃs production (most recently on his incredible full-length album, When No One is Watching We Are Invisible), will be pleased to discover the Finn is a fine decknician to boot. He kicks off with ApproximateÃs "Fututoshop," its strange bleepy melody seems ripped from an old Beau Brummels tune. After that, a sweet and loose roll of deep vocal house cuts by ADNY, Spiro Projecto, Nick Holder and into the too phat combo of Jaymz NylonÃs very groovy "I Know A Place" and BlazeÃs "Funky People," a Jackson 5-tinged funky number. From there, the groove tightens with cuts by, among others,The Persuader, Daniel Ibbotson, Slow Supreme and HulkkonenÃs own special "SumthinÃ." And dig that incredibly cool sleeve art!
