On New Years Eve 1979, 11:59 pm, rather than looking at the fireworks I remember vividly staring at my brand new digital wristwatch and seeing 79 turn into 80. That particular memory I'll probably still have at my deathbed.
In 1989, aged 16 and having loved the 80's, but being quite anxious to get on with the 90's , I stayed the NYE home making music. Recent events in world politics, escalating to the end of the Cold War, seemed to project a beautiful new decade; a decade of reason and enlightenment. The future -my future included -looked promising.
The nineties mostly failed to cash in on the promises laid early on the decade (hip-house never making it to mainstream included), as did the much feared Y2K which lead a lot of people to stay in on NYE in 1999. I had moved to Helsinki the night before, and played "Millenniumrave" in there intended for 6'000 people. Five showed up.
Enter 2009.

Ooooohhhh la la! Encore des Français...
Turbo interviews Monsieur Monsieur about their victory in the Peanuts Club remix contest.
Monsieur, Monsieur, first of all, thanks for an excellent remix! You were unanimously selected by Noob, Brodinski, Mike Mind, and myself as the winner out of 140 entries.
Is this the single greatest moment of your musical career? How old are you?
It’s one of the greatest moments in our musical career with our remix for the shoes signed on Green United Music . We are very proud and glad to have won this remix contest. We hope it’s not the last one.... ahaha. We are 21 years old.
Who would you rather remix, Tiga or Peter Gabriel? (This is OVO-era P-Gabe we're talking about.)
Definetly Tiga, because we ‘ve been addicted to his song for a long time now.

Bugged Out's Johnno interviews Tiga about his year, Twitter, Turbo, touring, and the upcoming gig at Matter... read on:

What's fucking incredible about this record is that it's time STILL hasn't come. It never really fit in, and it still doesn't, but it's awesome... It's a taste of some weird future we can all look forward to that needs to happen post-proxy, post-acid revival 09... the fact that it has a dated, slightly ethnic sample from Rockers Revenge totally supports my theory - watch ANY futuristic party scene (see Blade, dreadlock-frenzy in Matrix Reloaded, dreadlock-madness in Strange Days) and you'll see that the future is never afraid of mixed-race sex or oversized alien shades, and it always has a black man or a German leading the charge.
