born Shawn Ward began his journey into music at age 8 when his parents
enrolled him in classical piano lessons. Even before then as a small
child, Shawn loved to go through and listen to his Dad's record
collection that contained everything from Quincy Jones to Jimmy
Hendrix.
After 9 years of studying classical piano, Shawn's interests turned
to blues, jazz and Latin music, so he studied these styles at a
music college. A short time later, a friend from England moved to
town. He was a Dj with Tech 1200s and a big record collection, it
was this friend that influenced Shawn to buy his own turntables
and try his luck at spinning.
Shawn eventually ended up studying and living in Mazatlan, Mexico
for 5 years where he played at the local Nighclubs and Discos as
well as throwing his own parties. He created a local house scene
with the Mexicans as well as tourists.
When Shawn moved back to Vancouver, he focused on producing music,
and developing his own sound. In the last 6 months, he has released
records for Penetrate Records from Calgary as well as an upcoming
release teamed with Peter Hecher on San Francisco based house Label
Tweekin Records.
His newest signing with Montreal's Turbo Recordings is sure to launch
him onto the international house scene with a strong debut ep.
