Producer since 1989, Robert Calvin was originally influenced by late 70's and early 80's electronic groups such as Cabaret Voltaire, Tuxedomoon, Throbbing Gristle, Einsturzende Neubauten, Depeche Mode, Front 242, and Nitzer Ebb to name a few... These bands influenced his sound for the first half of the 90's, with Robert concentrating mainly on the pop side of the music.
His early teenage years were filled with disco frenzy, synth pop, italo armada and funk for the soul. Then came... acid house of which he bought his first record at the age of 17. Later captured by the dark side of the force, he started dressing in black and getting involved in the Techno Pop/Gothic scene. One morning, Robert wondering which of his many black t-shirts to put on, was hit by the light and discovered Rave Music and Detroit techno. Favorite tracks included Warp's early outtings, and works from labels such as R&S, Harthouse, Downwards, Tresor, Counterbalance.
If you now mix it all up, you get Robert Calvin's own trademark sound. But for your pleasure and mine, he is now returning to his roots : beloved 80's sound producing techno with an acid twist, and IDM tunes your older sister would love...
This is why Turbo Recordings is proud to present Robert Calvin's brand new EP : Methods of dance.
Robert Calvin is also involved in other projects with producers like HD Substance & Daniel Erbe (Ballet Mecanico) and Oscar Mulero (Quite Unusual).
He has released various works on Spanish and German independent labels under various aka's: Robert Calvin, Groof, Half Mute, Ais and Q_ix.
