I've known Mike for more than 23 years, since we were 5 years old. We were best friends when we were 9, mainly because we were both fast, small, and good in school. At some point in the early teen years, we kind of stopped being friends. In grade 11 we went on a school Rugby trip to England and Wales and that was the first time I realized he also liked techno. We went record shopping in London... I remember we both bought that silver Soma 050 LP... and from then, I guess there was a silent bond that would bring us together years later...
He went to Harvard straight out of high school and then switched from sciences into photography or painting, which I always thought was a bold and pretty crazy move. When he came back to Montreal I'd see him around from time to time and gradually we 're-connected'.
The major step was when we tried to do a video for Tiga's 'Louder Than A Bomb' together. Despite the fact that it was a total nightmare and the video was slightly disastrous, we came out of it alive and in the habit of working together.
Mike has a powerful, focused determination about him... I remember Tiga once said something like "Mike could count grains of sand." He's got huge, strong hands, perfect for bending raw material to his will.
Since he's started working at Turbo, productivity has increased by 300%. His new record 'Acid Machine' is amazing. He's got a real love for techno and I know that it is going to shine through in everything he does for the label.
